Amino Acids

Any of a class of 20 molecules that are combined to form proteins in living things. The sequence of amino acids in a protein and hence protein function are determined by the genetic code.

Nitrogen-bearing organic acids that are the building blocks of protein. The branched chain amino acids are Leucine, Valine and Isoleucine.

Anabolic Precursors

Anabolic is a metabolic condition in which new molecules are synthesized (growth). Precursors are substances, cells, or cellular components from which another substance, cell, or cellular component is formed.

Anabolic Precursors are products that raise the levels of the male hormones testosterone (Androdiol®) and 19-nortestosterone (Norandrodiol®). They contain metabolic precursors that your body transforms into the active hormones. These male hormones are very capable of raising your energy and mood levels, your libido, and can aid in the development of lean body mass and strength.

Prohormones are supplements that enhance your performance by increasing the level of hormone in your body. By themselves prohormones do not have much activity but they are instrumental in generating hormones.

Bars

Nutrition food bars provide a complete meal or snack in a very convenient form for times during the day that you are unable to eat a complete, balanced whole-foods based meal. Whether your job requires you to travel a lot, you have a busy meeting schedule, or you are just too busy to prepare a nutritious meal, there are times that a quick meal in a "candy bar" form is very convenient to have available. Sometimes it can save you from a trip to the unhealthy candy vending machine!

Creatine

A muscle fuel that is extracted naturally from meat and fish, or synthesized in the lab. Once it is in the muscles, creatine combines with phosphorous to make Creatine Phosphate (CP), a high powered chemical that rebuilds the muscles ultimate energy source: Adenosine Triphosphate (ATP). CP powers your muscles for high intensity exercise for short periods only. More CP in the muscle cell translates into a greater resistance to fatigue.

Creatine supplies instant "bursts" of energy to muscle cells, enabling athletes and fitness buffs to train harder, longer—leading to accelerated muscle growth, greater strength, fuller muscles, and enhanced performance.

Dietary Fats / Oils

Essential fatty acids (EFA's) are "good fats" that are essential to every cell in your body. They play a critical role in immune, cardiovascular, and nerve function. They are called essential because our bodies cannot produce them, and therefore we must get them from the food we eat or from supplementation. Unfortunately, the food we eat is often not enough to supply the required amount of EFA's, as they are routinely processed out of most foods.

EFA's include Linoleic Acid, Omega-3 Fatty Acids, and Monounsaturated fats. These are considered the "good fats". They cannot be made by the body and must be supplied by our diet. You need approximately 2% of your daily calories as EFA's.

Drinks

Drinks are the ultimate delicious and satisfying solution for quick nutrition. Varieties of drinks include nutrition, energy, and muscle growth (creatine).

Fitness Accessories

Fitness Accessories include everything you need for your workouts or competitions. These include fitness/body balls, gloves, fat calipers, lifting belts, books, and other items.

Herbs

An herb (also called a botanical) is a plant or plant part used for its scent, flavor, and/or therapeutic properties.

Popular herbs are: Black Cohosh, Cayenne, Echinacea, Feverfew/featherfew, Garlic, Ginger, Ginkgo biloba, Ginseng, Milk Thistle, Saw Palmetto, St. John’s Wort, Valerian

Low Carb Products

Low Carb products are variations of everyday foods with little to no carbohydrates in them. Similar to Low Fat products.

Carbohydrates come from a wide array of foods. They also come in a variety of forms. The most common and abundant ones are sugars, fibers, and starches. The basic building blocks of a carbohydrate are sugar molecules. Starches and fibers are essentially chains of sugar molecules. Some contain hundreds of sugars.

Lowering your daily intake of carbohydrates makes your body burns its stored carbohydrates (glycogen) for energy. When your body burns glycogen, water is released, and you lose weight. Your body also starts burning some fat.

Meal Replacements

Meal replacements powders (MRP's) are prepackaged powdered blends that you mix with juice, water, or milk and take in place of eating a whole food meal. They are convenient, reasonably priced, and have great flavors.

MRP's are best suited for individuals who either don't have have time to prepare complete healthy meals, do not like many of the foods that are naturally high in good quality protein, or simply enjoy the convenience of a quick meal.

Many MRP's are low in fat and high in protein and therefore are sometimes referred to as protein shakes. Others contain a balanced ratio of protein, carbohydrates, and fat. They usually contain a complete profile of vitamin and minerals and other important nutrients especially important for bodybuilders, athletes and dieters.

Protein

Primary macronutrient for growth and maintenance of our body's structural parts (including muscle). Cannot be stored, so must be replenished through diet. (1 gram = 4 calories).

Protein powders are useful to supplement your diet with a high quality protein without consuming the saturated fats that frequently accompany whole foods that are high in protein. Some people prefer to eat foods that are high in carbohydrates, so consuming protein drinks with meals allows them to continue to eat their preferred foods while getting the protein their body needs. Protein powder is also excellent for use in recipes to make Zone diet, low carbohydrate diet, ketogenic diet, or just high protein meals.

Vitamins / Minerals

Many vitamins and minerals are considered "essential" nutrients—meaning our bodies don't make them, so they must be obtained from either the foods we eat or from supplementation. These nutrients are vitally important to our health (and life), serving as the basis for proper brain function, muscular contraction, fluid balance, and energy production.

Popular vitamins/minerals are: A (Retinol); B-Complex: [thiamine (B1), riboflavin (B2), niacin (B3), pantothenic acid (B5), pyridoxine (B6), biotin, folic acid and the cobalamins (B12)]; C (Ascorbic acid); Calcium; Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10,ubiquinone); E (d-alpha-tocopherol); Glucosamine/Chondroitin; Iron; Magnesium; Potassium; Zinc.

Weight Gain

If you are one of those people who just can't gain weight, try a weight gainer to add extra calories to your daily diet. Calories are key to gaining weight.

Other things to consider in a gainer are carbs and fats. You need carbs to help protein absorption, and you know you need the protein. Fats are definitely your friends in a gainer (though not saturated fat), as they seriously up the calorie content. A general rule of thumb is twice as much protein as fat, and twice as many carbs as protein.

For any bodybuilder, protein is the key to a good diet. For a hard gainer, the best way to get that protein is in the form of a gainer.
